Cory Defies Rally Ban, Reiterates Resign Call

Despite MalacaƱang’s declaration of a state of emergency and the announcement of the cancellation of all EDSA-related activities, as well as the police’s warning that they will arrest anyone who stages a rally without permit, former President Corazon Aquino said she will push through with a scheduled march to his husband’s monument in Ayala Avenue, Makati. Aquino also reiterated her call for Gloria Arroyo to make the ultimate sacrifice and resign.

Earlier this afternoon, the police dispersed a group of protesters who belong to the Bayan bloc and pro-Erap groups in EDSA Shrine. They also violently dispersed, chased, and arrested members of the Laban ng Masa/Akbayan-Sanlakas bloc near Santolan. UP Prof. Randy David and Atty. Argee Guevara were among those who were arrested.

  1. Chris Says:

Mrs. Aquino faced several bloody coup attempts during her presidency. Those coup attempts were extremely damaging to our country but nobody asked her to make the extreme sacrifice of resigning just to keep the situation from getting worse. And yet, that is exactly what she is asking of President Arroyo. What effrontery that is!

  2. Julian Alejandro Says:

Chris, Mrs Aquino was never accused of cheating in the elections. In fact, she was the one who was cheated, and People Power returned to her the victory that Marcos stole from the people.

Cory is calling for Arroyo’s resignation not because of the supposed coup attempt, but because of “Hello Garci.”
