NUJP Asks Sandigan to Rescind Ban on Live Coverage of Erap Promulgation
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) today urged the Sandiganbayan to rescind its ban on live media coverage during the promulgation of the plunder case against deposed president Joseph Estrada.
“At the very least, we ask the anti-graft court to allow pooled coverage of the proceedings,” the NUJP said in a statement. While recognizing the need for justice, the NUJP said it is also important to consider the interests of transparency and the people’s right to know.
“It would be an injustice if the people are deprived of the full details of such an historic occasion, whose outcome will definitely have a major impact on our national life,” NUJP added.
