The Da Vinci Code
I’m not the type who reads bestsellers. Usually, it takes me years before I read books raved about by everyone. It took me three Harry Potter books to pass before I had an interest to might as well read the first one. Last week, while I was rummaging through some books I bought but haven’t finished, I saw Dan Brown’s celebrated novel The Da Vinci Code and decided what the heck, might as well read the damn thing.
Voila! I got hooked. I was supposed to write something political here but I wasn’t able to jot it down because I was reading, what else?
Thing is I’ve always been a believer of the sacred feminine and the “grand conspiracy” against it. History is made by those in power, as the book suggests. My history professor would even add that history is made by those who have the means to change or twist it. If that’s the case, then it’s really up to us to decode our own truths or leave it to faith.

pareho tayo. di rin ako mahilig sa bestsellers. meron akong HP ebooks pero natatamad ako magbasa. i’m considering to get a ‘book copy’. re da vinci code marami na rin sakeng nagsabi basahin ko ang librong yan (not sure if i’d understand it lol). this made me think, why not? para kunwari intelektwal din ako hehe. =)

it’s intellectual alright but it’s also simply written. para bang naloloko ka na akala mo nagbabasa ka lang ng suspense/thriller novel pero history lesson na pala. go ahead and try it.

I got a copy of Da Vinci Code on my birthday (a friend bought it from Barnes and Noble). ’twas the first time that I read about the ‘grand conspiracy’ but that’s it. I wasn’t hook or something. I still think that Brown’s other novel, Angels and Demons is better, pero they’re almost the same.

If you liked the book, better pick up “HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL”, this is where the story of the DA VINCI CODE is based on. Mighty good read. Even better than DVC.

I was familiar with almost all of Dan Brown’s subjects in the DaVinci Code. Although I’m not very impressed with his storytelling I was glad that someone finally had the guts to spill it out for mass consumption. I think the time it right with more people receptive to new ideas that can expand the boundaries of our mind and beliefs.

Speaking as an atheist, I found the Da Vinci Code a good, exciting read… and not much else. Dan Brown twists much of history’s events to suit his girl-power-in-religion thesis: the Jews didn’t worship a female equivalent of God, only his feminine presence (big difference) - among other things.
If we measured “good read” by how it makes us feel, then by all means, the Da Vinci Code is a good read. But if we measure it by how closely it sticks to the truth, this book is a failure in all respects.

This was already written about almost thirty years ago in Holy Blood, Holy Grail.

Wow, the Da Vinci Code was an amazing book! My wife and I listened to it on CD and loved every minute of it. The movie was pretty good, but like most movies, it fell short of the book.

I heard a rumor that Disney might be making a Harry Potter theme park? I imagine that it would do very well for a while, but in the long run it would flop.
